Endless beaches, rainforests, river valleys, and biodiversity all in one place - a different type of adventure around every corner. Here's a few suggestions to get you started! Ziplining - Whether it's through the evergreen Monteverde Forest or the vibrant jungle canopy, ziplining is an incredibly popular activity in Costa Rica.
Wildlife viewing - Nearly 25% of Costa Rica is national parks and wildlife preserves. Los Quetzales National Park is an amazing location for bird watchers (the park gets its name from the tropical quetzals that are found here) and eco-tourism. With one of few old growth wet forests on the Pacific coast and more than a dozen ecosystems, Corcovado National Park should not be missed.
Surfing - Towns like Samara, Avellanas, and Tamarindo offer great year-round surfing. The warm water and steady wind make Costa Rica a surfer's paradise. Never surfed before and want to try? Many beaches offer boards and lessons for beginners. Volcano hiking - The Arenal volcano is one of the most well-known natural attractions in Costa Rica. In the surrounding area, kayaking, boating, and paddleboarding are common. Below the summit, you'll also find waterfalls, zip lining, hot springs, and horseback riding. Rincon de la Vieja National Park has another volcano with views of the Nicoya Peninsula and Lake Nicaragua.
Visting waterfalls - A small hike will bring you to 70 meter high La Fortuna waterfall and the beautiful, swimmable pool at its base. Another favourite, the Celeste waterfall, is located in Tenorio Volcano National Park in the Northern Plans and is known for its bright blue waters. Lesser-known waterfalls include Bajos del Tori in the Alajuela province and Catarata del Toro, which plummets into an extinct volcanic crater.
River rafting - Rio Pacuare, a biosphere reserve, offers an amazing white-water rafting experience through the jungle. According to National Geographic, it's a top river in the world for rafting. Rio Savegre offers chances to spot jaguars, tapirs, and birds along the river. Exploring off-road - Get off the beaten path with a 4x4 for your chance to see some unique views and control your own schedule. Remember though, it's not permitted to drive on the beach.
Yoga retreats - Wellness travel is incredibly popular in popular in Costa Rica, including yoga retreats in peaceful surroundings.
