Why You Should Visit Dubrovnik, Croatia

Nestled at the bottom of Mount Srd, within stunning views of the Adriatic Sea, you'll find Dubrovnik, Croatia. If this amazing coastal destination isn't on your bucket list yet, it really should be. While it can be a very busy tourist location, its popularity is very well earned.

The well-maintained city walls that surround the pedestrian-friendly Old Town add to Dubrovnik's charm, and when visiting, walking the walls is something you should definitely make time for. The entire circuit is about two kilometers, so plan for more than an hour (you'll want to admire the views and take some pictures). Stairs are definitely involved and there's not always a lot of shade, so be sure to plan accordingly. I promise, the views are worth it.

Below the walls, Dubrovnik continues to impress with beautiful pedestrian streets lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops. If you love museums, you'll have plenty of options for those as well. You may even recognize some of the streets and areas from popular television shows and movies like Game of Thrones (welcome to Kings Landing) and Star Wars. With its position on the Adriatic, water activities are common here - with options like cliff diving into the sea from from Buza Bar (be careful!), boating over to Lokram Island (a nature park and popular swimming spot), sea kayaking, and getting in some quality beach time (heads up, most beaches are more rocky on shore than sandy). Want to get a view of the entire Old Town, consider taking the cable car up Mount Srd. You'll also find a restaurant at the top. Other highlights include the Franciscan Monastery near Pile Gate, Lovrijenac Fortress (admission is included in the price to visit the walls), Dubrovnik Cathedral, St John Fortress (which contains a small aquarium), Sponza Palace, the clock tower, and the Old Town's port.

Whether you only have a day visit while in port on a cruise, or you have time to spend a couple of days exploring, Dubrovnik will not disappoint. Interested in visiting Dubrovnik yourself?
